Description

ON A RECENT TRIP TO THE NEW ENGLAND STATES, WE WERE ON OUR WAY BACK TO BOSTON AND DECIDED TO DRIVE TO SOUTHERN MAINE TO OGUNQUIT.  THE NUBBLE LIGHTHOUSE, ALSO KNOWN AS THE CAPE NEDDICK LIGHT STATION IS LOCATED IN SOHIER PARK, IN THE TOWN OF YORK MAINE.  THE LIGHTHOUSE WAS COMPLETED ON JULY 1, 1879, AUTOMATED JULY, 1987.  WHEN THE AUTOMATION HAPPENED, AND THE KEEPER AND HIS FAMILY LEFT THE ISLAND, THE LIGHT HOUSE WAS PLACED ON THE NATIONAL REGISTRY OF HISTORIC PLACES AND A LEASE WAS SIGNED BY THE TOWN OF YORK TO MAINTAIN THE UPKEEP OF THE LIGHTHOUSE.
