THE OBSERVATORY, EL CARACOL, WHICH MEANS SNAIL, IS THE NAME OF ONE OF THE MAIN BUILDINGS AT THE MAYAN RUINS IN CHICHEN ITZA, MEXICO.  THE BUILDING WAS DEDICATED TO THE STUDY OF ASTRONOMY, WHERE THE ASTRONOMERS OBSERVED THE MOVEMENT IN THE SKY FROM THE TOWER.  THE ASTRONOMERS MADE THESE OBSERVATIONS WITH THEIR NAKED EYE.
